Chocolate Bliss

I love CHOCOLATE! I love the ambrosial smell of chocolate and the sweet, luscious feeling of melted dark chocolate dancing a sensual tango with my tongue. Ecstasy that only chocolate can provide.

Whew!

Chocolate and I have a reciprocal arrangement. As long as I agree to limit the amount I consume, it agrees not to grease my hips. In order to have the best of both worlds, I’ve made eating chocolate an event – a happy blissful moment to be cherished. It’s something to be done mindfully, slowly, and consciously. I didn’t know it could be this much fun. Why don’t you give it a try?

Gently hold a bite size piece of your favorite chocolate in your hand.

Take a deep breath. Allow your body to relax. Bring your attention and focus inward and solely onto the chocolate.

Notice its weight and shape. Is it round or square? Is it smooth or decorated with swirls? What color is it? Does the brown have shades of copper or red or is it perhaps a rich charcoal-brown? Is it glossy or matt? Is it dark or light? What other features do you notice?

Slowly take a deep breath, filling your lungs with air. Hold it and gently let it out.

Now close your eyes. Bring the chocolate up to your nose and inhale deeply. Beyond the chocolaty aroma, do you pick up any whiffs of milk or cream, or caramel or malt? Are you noticing toasted nuts, roasted coffee, dried fruit or perhaps even wine? How are you feeling? Are you smiling yet?

Listen for the snap as you take a small bite. Let the delectable morsel sit on your tongue. Raise it to the roof of your mouth. Pass your tongue over the bottom of it. Flirt with it. Let it slowly melt as you languidly twirl it around. Tease it. Savor it.

Relax and swallow.

Bring the remaining piece to your nose. Inhale deeply. Are the aromas the same or are they different?

Pop the chocolate onto your tongue. Resist the urge to gobble it. Swirl it. Chew it. Dance with it. Taste it. Let the chocolaty sweetness caress your tongue and cheeks.

Relax and swallow.

Take another deep breath and slowly return your awareness to your surroundings.

Do you feel satiated? In most cases I do. One piece is enough.

    1. My neighbor is like you, she can’t eat chocolate either. However, there are so many other delectable sweets out there that are just as tantalizing to our taste buds. What are your favorites? Thank you for kind words. I appreciate them.

      1. I love peppermints- I can eat packets and packets of them and not be ill
Unfortunately my advancing age and my teeth do not support me in my “sweet” endeavors, so none for me, I’m afraid.
Otherwise I don’t enjoy other sweets.
